Volunteering at Te Wai Ngutu Kākā

Established in 2004, Ngutu Kākā Gallery is dedicated to the development of contemporary art and design through a curated programme of exhibitions, events, symposia and publications focused both locally and internationally.

We operate three gallery spaces on the AUT City Campus within the School of Art and Design, and an additional outdoor projection space which operates nightly on St Paul St.

Our team is staffed by Stephen Cleland (Curator and Manager), Eddie Clemens (Gallery Technician), Mitchell McGrath (Gallery Assistant), and Nat Tozer (Operations Administrator). Additionally, we’re pleased to announce our new volunteer program for 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about the mechanisms of a not-for-profit contemporary art gallery. This role is an integral part of the team, welcoming visitors, looking after the artworks on display, and assisting across a range of events.
